Wang, Blinken talk

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday, and the two exchanged views on issues including the Afghanistan situation and China-US relations.
Blinken said the US believes that the United Nations Security Council should speak in a clear and unified voice not only to show that the international community expects the Taliban to guarantee the safe evacuation of foreign citizens, but also to ensure that the Afghan people receive humanitarian assistance and that the country's territory will not become a haven for terrorism.
Wang said that facts once again have shown that the war in Afghanistan didn't realize the goal of eliminating terrorist forces in the country, and the hasty withdrawal of troops by the US and NATO might provide an opportunity for the resurgence of various terrorist groups in the nation. He also urged Washington to help curb terrorism in Afghanistan with practical actions.
Regarding the bilateral relations, Wang said that Beijing will consider how to engage with Washington according to the US attitude toward China.
If the US expects the bilateral ties to get back on the right track, it should stop smearing and attacking China and undermining its sovereignty, security and development interests, he said.
