GWM buys Daimler plant in Brazil
Great Wall Motors, China's leading sport utility vehicle and pickup manufacturer, has signed an agreement with Daimler AG for the acquisition of the German carmaker's plant in Brazil. According to the agreement, the Iracemapolis plant in Brazil will be handed over to Great Wall Motors by the end of this year. The Hebei province-based Great Wall Motors said it would transform the plant to enable an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles and create nearly 2,000 jobs.
Indonesian railway line sees progress
State-owned China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group made further progress in building the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway line in Indonesia by erecting a series of precast box girders on Sunday spanning an existing local railway. The 142-kilometer Jakarta-Bandung line is the first high-speed railway built by Chinese companies overseas. Upon full completion, it will help cut the ride time from the current more than three hours to 40 minutes.
