Tianjin’s manufacturing sector to grow by 8.7% by 2023

Tianjin launched a three-year action plan to strengthen the manufacturing industry’s pillar role in powering the city’s development during the 14th Five Year Plan (2021-25) period.

The municipality is aiming high for the manufacturing industry’s development, since the industry was designated as the main driver of economic development by the city when drafting the blueprints for the next five years.

According to the Tianjin Industrial and Information Technology Bureau, the added value of the municipality’s manufacturing industry will achieve an annual growth of 8.7 percent by 2023, making up 23.5 percent of the GDP. Strategic emerging and high-tech industries are key to large-sized companies.

To achieve the goals, the city will implement measures and policies centered on the following directions.

Its innovative energy will be devoted to breaking new ground in information technology, the bioindustry and the high-end manufacturing industry.

To further enhance the industrial base, it will up ten industrial chains, including information technology, and integrated circuits will be upgraded and strengthened.

By doing so, the scale of key industries is expected to reach 1.3 trillion yuan($200 billion) and form a safe and efficient industrial ecosystem where large and medium-sized enterprises can integrate and facilitate the development of each other.

Intelligent manufacturing will also be advanced with 300 smart factories and digitalized workshops and the city’s nation-leading 5G coverage.

Outstanding enterprises and themed industrial parks will be cultivated and selected to lead in the pursuit of high-quality development. At present, there are 7,420 high-tech enterprises in the city.

More than 200 national-level green manufacturing demonstration enterprises will also be built to pioneer the green development of the industry.
