Tianjin’s Beichen district has achieved remarkable results in its pursuit of high-level social and economic development, according to a news conference held by the local government on Friday.

Beichen district has banked on expanding its major industries and attracting strategic new industries to further manifest its sound industrial base.

Since 2017, 154 100-million yuan($15.42 million) projects, including projects involved in developing solar energy batteries and SMC pneumatic components, have been attracted to the district, with a total investment of 220 billion yuan.

The district has gathered momentum in developing its new energy industry and high-end electric vehicles. Leading companies, complete industry chains and clusters and their support services will be given priority in local development.

Meanwhile, thousands of enterprises in Beichen have been decommissioned because of concerns over environmental pollution.

Echoing Tianjin’s city-wide goal to promote international and regional consumption, Beichen district will divert energy to help develop the modern services sector, nurturing new consumption modes such as duty-free retail.

The district has achieved remarkable outcomes in ensuring full and strict governance over the basic level Party committees in effort to strengthen Party leadership and Party building.

Urbanization, as a key part of the district’s work, has achieved remarkable outcomes. 128 new infrastructure projects, with an investment totaling 7.8 billion yuan, have transformed the appearance of 31 pilot roads and residential communities.

In addition, the district is also promoting integrated urban-rural development and rural tourism.

Favorable employment policies have yielded 91,700 new jobs, and targeted help has reached all low-income households. Newly built elderly care centers have been put into use to help better the services and care for those in need.
