Triplets with infected mother enter world free of COVID-19

"Medical supplies, including equipment and drugs were also transported to the hospital," said team member Chen Zhuo, associate chief physician in the obstetrics department of First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University.
"We made a treatment plan after evaluating Zi's respiratory circulation functions and formulated a plan to prevent premature delivery and to monitor the unborn babies," she said.
Team members practiced procedures several times, she added.
Care from the nurses also helped improve Zi's health condition.
"A nursing team provided 24-hour medical observation and care," said Xu Yan, head nurse in the obstetrics department of Mangshi People's Hospital. "To increase her nutrition, we formulated recipes based on her preferences."
"Further, we paid close attention to her psychological and emotional changes, and eased her negative emotions, which helped build up her confidence in overcoming COVID-19," she said.
In the early morning Wednesday, Zi developed a serious liver condition and it was decided to resort to cesarean section to deliver the babies.
"The cesarean section was successful and the babies have been put in quarantine wards," said Chen. "They and their mother are in stable condition now."
