A pair of reed parrotbills with their babies were recently observed in the wetlands of the Naolihe National Nature Reserve in Heilongjiang province.

Reed parrotbills, an endangered species that lives in marshes, have been called as the giant pandas of birds because of their rarity.

Wang Hongjiang, a local photographer, got a shot of the birds during a visit to the reserve. He was seeking a different species.

"I failed after several hours of searching," he said. "Then I was attracted by a beautiful birdsong from the reed beds."
