On Thursday, the Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union announced they would quit the so-called "Hong Kong Alliance", an organization that constantly called for subversion.

For the latter, this is nothing new. Over the last several months, many of its member organizations have quit, while several of those that did not announced they would no longer participate in its activities and became "zombie members".

According to local reports, the number of HKA's member organizations, which were previously claimed to be over 200, had dropped to eight in early July. Now with the quitting of PTU, the number could not be higher than seven. To quote some local media, member organizations quit HKA like "rats jumping from a sinking ship".

That shows what the Hong Kong people think of a subversive organization that hates its home city and motherland. For the PTU, it might be a smart move to exit a subversive organization, but too little too late as far as redemption is concerned. In 2019 when Hong Kong was troubled by rioters, PTU asked its member teachers to quit class.

In 2019, the textbooks approved by PTU were found to contain materials that whitewashed the illegal activity "Occupy Central", without mentioning its negative effects.

In October 2020, when a primary school teacher was reported to teach children about the idea of Hong Kong "independence", PTU did not penalize her.

Even in April, long after order was restored in Hong Kong, PTU put books that praised violence and riots in a bookstore servicing its members.

In reality, PTU has long been a political tool against the legal government in Hong Kong. It carries the word "professional" in its name but its behavior doesn't honor such a term.

Now it has realized there is no future in the HKA and decided to leave, which is a good choice. Since it's made this choice, the PTU should do something valuable with its time instead of undermining Hong Kong society.
