Sanctions unveiled over US moves

Beijing has decided to impose sanctions on seven US individuals and entities, including former US secretary of commerce Wilbur Ross, over Washington's recent erroneous moves related to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The countermeasure by China is based on the Law of the People's Republic of China on Countering Foreign Sanctions, according to a news release from the Foreign Ministry on Friday. The sanctions are in response to the US government issuing the so-called "Hong Kong Business Advisory" on July 16 and imposing sanctions on seven officials of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, the statement said, adding that any attempt by external forces to interfere in Hong Kong affairs will end up in vain.
