Dozens treated after chemical leak in park

A chemical leak at a Houston-area water park left dozens suffering from minor skin irritation and respiratory issues on Saturday, authorities said. Twenty-nine people were taken to local hospitals following the incident at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Spring, the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said. KPRC-TV said some of those who became sick were children, including a 3-year-old admitted to hospital in a stable condition. The chemicals involved included hypochlorite solution and 35 percent sulfuric acid, officials said.

11 die, 19 saved as slab over well collapses

Rescuers have pulled out 11 bodies and rescued 19 people from a well after a concrete slab over it collapsed in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday. The people had assembled on the slab of the well to rescue a child from drowning. Thirty people fell into the well in the village of Lal Patar after the old concrete slab caved in, police said. Officials said it appeared the slab collapsed under the weight of the people, causing them to fall into the well, about 15 meters deep.

KENYA

Fuel truck blast kills 13, injuring many

Thirteen people were killed and many others injured when an overturned petrol tanker caught fire and exploded on a highway in western Kenya, police said on Sunday. The victims had rushed to siphon leaking fuel after the truck toppled over in an accident near Malanga, about 315 kilometers northwest of Nairobi. In 2009 a similar accident near Molo, northwest of the capital Nairobi, killed about 122 people.
