On-site cybersecurity scan of Didi begins
The Cyberspace Administration of China, along with other six government authorities, began an on-site cybersecurity inspection of ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing on Friday, a statement released on the official website of the CAC said.
The on-site inspection also involves regulators including the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of State Security, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Transport, the State Taxation Administration, and the State Administration for Market Regulation.
Last week, the Cyberspace Administration of China ordered that 25 apps owned by Didi be removed from app stores, citing serious violation of laws and regulations in terms of the collection and use of personal information.
The Cyberspace Administration of China had announced the removal of Didi from app stores earlier this month, saying the app seriously violated laws and regulations, and the decision to remove the app was made in accordance with the Cybersecurity Law.
Didi should rectify its problems in relation to laws and national standards to protect the safety of its users' information, the administration said.
Didi debuted in the United States last month, raising $4.4 billion from investors via its New York stock offering. In the prospectus for its initial public offering, Didi said it has 493 million active riders annually and processes 41 million daily transactions on average.
