Ruling party wins election in landslide
The country's ruling Prosperity Party on Saturday was declared the winner of last month's national election, securing a landslide victory with 410 seats out of 436 contested in the federal parliament and assuring a second five-year term for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. In a social media post published on Saturday, Ahmed called the election historic. He promised to include some opposition figures who took part in the election in his new government, which is expected to be formed in October.

'Cyber disruption' halts official websites
Websites of Iran's Ministry of Transport and Urbanization went out of service on Saturday after a "cyber disruption" in its computer systems, the official IRNA news agency reported. The report did not elaborate, but said the case is under investigation. This is the second abnormality related to the ministry's computer systems. On Friday Iran's railway system came under cyberattack by hackers with unprecedented chaos at stations with hundreds of trains delayed or canceled reported, of which the country's national railway company denied. Also on Saturday, Iran's telecommunications minister warned about possible cyberattacks through ransomware.

City removes flashpoint statues
The southern US city of Charlottesville on Saturday took down controversial statues including two honoring Civil War pro-slavery generals that had become the focus of protests. The statues of generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall "Jackson are among hundreds of Confederate monuments in the US now widely considered as symbols of racism. Tensions over the fate of the Lee statue led to violence in August 2017, when a white nationalist drove his car into a crowd of demonstrators in Charlottesville, killing a woman.

Migrant bus crash kills 12, injures 26
Twelve people died and 26 others were injured when a bus carrying migrants crashed in eastern Turkey on Saturday night, local media reported, quoting authorities in the prefecture of Van. Among the dead were 11 migrants and a person who helped organize their illegal transport, the authorities were quoted as saying on Sunday. The injured were taken to hospital and the owner of the bus was detained.
