Action plan sets goal of 40m skilled workers
China will work on producing more skilled workers by improving evaluation, training and incentive systems, and optimizing the skilled labor force. A Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security action plan released on Monday set a target of producing another 40 million skilled workers, with such workers to account for 30 percent of the nation's total workforce over 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period. The ministry said China had over 200 million skilled workers at the end of last year, 30 percent of whom had high-level skills. The nation is on track to train more skilled workers to address an increasing need for talent as it shifts to a high-quality development model. According to the action plan, the number of highly skilled workers in eastern provinces such as Zhejiang and Jiangsu will account for 35 percent of the national total in the next five years.
Chairman suspended over alleged assault
China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation has suspended the chairman of an investment company subsidiary over an alleged attack on two scientists, it said in a statement released on Sunday. According to media reports, Zhang Tao, 57, Party secretary and chairman of China Aerospace Investment Holdings, assaulted Wang Jinnian, 55, and Wu Meirong, 85, early last month after consuming alcohol, with the case sparking an outcry on Chinese social media platforms. The main contractor for the Chinese space program said it has sent a team to investigate the case and will deal with the matter seriously based on what is uncovered.
