House approves panel probe into Capitol riot
The US House of Representatives voted along party lines on Wednesday to investigate the deadly Capitol insurrection of Jan 6, giving the green light to a Democratic-controlled select committee after Senate Republicans blocked an independent, 9/11-style commission. Only two Republicans joined Democrats in the 222-190 vote to create the panel, which House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said will report on "conclusions and recommendations for preventing any future assault". The select committee will have 13 House members, and Pelosi will appoint its chair.

The remains of more than 180 people have been found in unmarked grave sites near a former boarding school for indigenous children in British
Columbia. According to a statement released on Wednesday, the Lower Kootenay Band, a member of the Ktunaxa Nation, said the discovery of the 182 sets of remains was near the former St. Eugene's Mission School near the city of Cranbrook. It was operated by the Catholic Church from 1912 to the 1970s. The statement said about 100 indigenous children attended the boarding school. The finding comes a month after the remains of 215 children were found buried in Kamloops, British Columbia.
