PM quits after losing no-confidence vote
Sweden's Prime Minister Stefan Lofven resigned on Monday, one week after he lost a vote of no confidence, leaving it up to the speaker of parliament to begin the search for a replacement. Lofven could have either called a snap election or resigned following the no-confidence vote last week. He told a news conference a snap election was "not what is best for Sweden", pointing to the difficult situation the COVID-19 pandemic posed, coupled with the fact that the next general election is a year away.

Records fall as heat wave hits Northwest
A historic heat wave is hitting the Pacific Northwest, pushing daytime temperatures into high digits, breaking all-time high temperature records in places unaccustomed to such extreme heat. Portland, Oregon, reached 44.4 C on Sunday, breaking the record of 42.2 C, which was set just a day earlier. The scorching weather was caused by an extended "heat dome" parked over the region, Kristie Ebi, a professor at the University of Washington, says.

3 dead after boat capsizes on lake
Three youngsters have died after a boat with five people capsized in southern Vietnam's Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, Vietnam News Agency cited local authorities as reporting on Monday. The group of five were rowing the boat on a deep lake in Phu My township when the accident occurred on Sunday morning. Only two of them could swim ashore, the report said, adding the three victims were aged between 22 and 27.Three bodies had been found as of Sunday night.
