Rural B&Bs
Beijing plans to grant 1,000 bed- and-breakfast businesses a star-rated status in the five years. The majority of them will be located in rural areas. The move is expected to boost rural tourism, said Kang Sen, spokesman of the Beijing Bureau of Agricultural and Rural Affairs.
Rescue on board
On a China Southern Airlines flight from Chengdu, Sichuan province, to Beijing on June 10, a passenger fell sick, his face swelling and lips turning numb. Crew members onboard took quick action in response to the emergency. While seeking aid in medical services, they contacted the airport and applied for priority landing. Once the plane arrived, the airport medical aid team entered the plane and offered treatment, which helped the passenger to recover.
Setting sail
A museum dedicated to the Grand Canal opened in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, on Wednesday, Xinhua News Agency reported. The ship-shaped museum standing by an ancient river running through the city integrates heritage protection, research, exhibitions and public education.

Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality showcased its brands by holding a trade show and dinner for its guests in Beijing, Chengdu in Sichuan province and Shanghai on June 8-10. Four of its brands-Diaoyutai, MGM, Bellagio by MGM and Mhub by MGM-took part in the promotion. In a highlight, Mhub by MGM made its debut. Scores of representatives from the hospitality group's properties in the three host cities, as well as Hangzhou, Sanya, Nanjing and Macao, attended the event.
Culinary delight
The St. Regis Beijing has revealed an afternoon tea set themed "Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day". Available from June 1 to Aug 31, it features newly crafted chilled teas, low-sugar pastries and fine china crockery. It will be reminiscent of England's elegant afternoon tea-drinking tradition, according to the hotel.
