Navy ship sinks after fire in Gulf of Oman
The largest ship in the Iranian navy sank in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday after efforts to put out a fire failed, but the crew safely disembarked, the navy said. The fleet replenishment tanker Kharg caught fire on Tuesday near the port of Jask. Firefighting efforts continued "for 20 hours" before the ship went down, it said.

'Remain in Mexico' asylum policy ends
The Biden administration on Tuesday formally ended a Donald Trump-era immigration policy that forced asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for hearings in US immigration courts. A seven-page memo marked the end of the "Migrant Protection Protocols", which returned 70,000 asylum-seekers to Mexico from January 2019 until it was halted on President Joe Biden's first day in office two years later.

Notorious killer freed after 25 years in jail
Italians were outraged on Tuesday after Giovanni Brusca, 64, a notorious mob boss, was released from prison, where he had served 25 years for a string of grim crimes. "Brusca freed-the cruellest boss," wrote La Repubblica daily. In 1992, he detonated the bomb that killed Giovanni Falcone, Italy's legendary prosecuting magistrate who dedicated his career to overthrowing the mafia.
