RURAL ROUTES
Three hundred new tour routes have recently been launched in China. They provide tourists with a closer look at the country's poverty alleviation achievements and help rural revitalization, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The first quarter of this year saw China's rural tourist sites receive a total of 984 million visits. This is up 5.2 percent compared with the same period in 2019, according to estimates from a rural tourism monitoring center.
RED TOURISM
The revenue generated by "red tourism" across China exceeded 400 billion yuan ($62.2 billion) in 2019, an official with the National Cultural Heritage Administration said last week. That year, the country saw a total of 1.4 billion red tourism trips, or revolution-themed trips, Gu Yucai, deputy director of the NCHA, told a news conference in Beijing. Many tourist sites with a revolutionary history have become a popular choice among Chinese tourists, especially young people, augmenting the fervor for red tourism, Gu added.
NEW APPOINTMENT
The Ritz-Carlton Sanya, Yalong Bay in Hainan province has appointed Colin Young as its general manager. Young, from Australia, has rich industry experience and keen insight into the market. In addition to his homeland, he has worked in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and other cities prior to the position in Sanya.
GRAND OPENING
Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality's first Mhub by MGM celebrated its grand opening in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, in mid-May. As the first hotel for the Mhub brand, Mhub by MGM Nanjing has an architectural design inspired by classical Jiangnan courtyards, which cleverly integrates indoor space with outdoor sceneries. Jiangnan refers to the region south of the Yangtze River's lower reaches.
