Shanghai hosts international regatta
The 2021 Shanghai Cruise Port International Regatta was held at Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in Baoshan district over the weekend.
Launched by the Chinese Yachting Association, the Shanghai Administration of Sports and the government of Baoshan district, the regatta invited 28 professional and amateur yachting teams and kayakers to participate in the Fareast 28 (FE28R) and canoe and kayak competition.
All participants, including the yachting teams from Russia and Australia, were already present in China ahead of the competition. The event did not invite foreign contestants who had to enter the country during this pandemic period.
According to the organizer, the number of yachting enthusiasts in the country has grown from just a few hundred in 2008 to over 100,000 now.
The Chinese Yachting Association, which was founded in 1981, has carried out events in dozens of cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen, Sanya, Haikou, Suzhou, Wuxi, and Huzhou.
