Tianjin Port gets smart with intelligent technologies

The fifth World Intelligence Congress, which has opened in Tianjin on Thursday and will run till May 23, is of great significance to the city and China in maintaining the lead in intelligent technology and high-quality economic and social development.

Tianjin Port, an important shipping hub in north China, has been continuously upgrading itself into a smart port. It has introduced a variety of technological innovations to bolster efficiency.

Giving full play to intelligent technologies, the port has built a world-first automated container facility, with intelligent tallying being realized for all terminals for the first time.

It has 5G coverage in all container terminals, which enables RTG remote control and smart tallying. With 3D visual recognition and positioning devices, robots are deployed to perform the unlocking procedure of containers.

The development and pilot operation of 25 intelligent self-driving trucks at the port have enabled Tianjin port to increase efficiency and cut operational costs by 60 percent and save energy by 20 percent.

It has also built the country’s leading logistics e-commerce platform that provides 24-hour online services for 27,000 users at the port. It effectively helps deal with up to 90 online orders, greatly improving the port’s service efficiency.

The cutting-edge big data management platform facilitates collecting and analyzing port trade logistics information.
