Envoys mark Buddha's birthday in Beijing
The Buddhist Association of China held a celebration on Wednesday for Buddha's birthday at Beijing's Guangji Temple.
Buddha's birthday is celebrated by all major sects of Buddhism. Chinese Han Buddhism marks the birthday on the eighth day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar.
It is the sixth consecutive year that the association has held the celebration. Representatives from Buddhist communities nationwide, as well as ambassadors from countries including Cambodia, the Republic of Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam attended the event.
Buddhist monks chanted in front of a Buddha statue and prayed for an early end to the pandemic, the good fortune of people and world peace. Ambassadors and guests also poured sacred water on the statue symbolizing the cleansing of worries.
