"Standardized production has definitely enhanced the competitiveness of our vegetable industry," Li said.

Many villagers are upgrading their greenhouses to more modern varieties.

Li Yihai, 55, spent 700,000 yuan ($108,675.57) in 2019 expanding his greenhouse in the village to one that now stretches for 300 meters.

"Most of the facilities in my greenhouse are smart. It's easier for me to control the growing environment of the color peppers, such as humidity, temperature and soil quality," he said.

To keep the soil healthy, Li Yihai is using a kind of enzyme widely used in the village.

Last year, he earned 400,000 yuan from the greenhouse.

"The color peppers we grow are rich in healthy microelements and in good shape, thus enjoying a solid market reputation," he added.

Carrots grown in the city's Peixi village have been sold to more than 20 countries and regions.

Li Xinghua, general manager of a food company located in the village, has accumulated rich experience growing carrots that are welcome in global markets.

"The carrots must look good with smooth skin and good color," he said.

Li bought a machine to sort seeds and an expensive GPS system for planting.

"In this way, carrots can grow with good intervals with a higher output," he added.

Li Xinghua's company has also developed growing bases in Fujian and Shaanxi provinces and in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region to meet global demand for carrots all year round.

With standardized production implemented, the vegetable industry in Shouguang is entering a high-quality development track in both overseas and domestic markets, said Zhao Xuchun, Party secretary of Shouguang.
