Holiday fillip for delivery companies
China's courier sector collected 1.34 billion parcels during the five-day May Day holiday that ended on Wednesday, up 97.13 percent from the pre-pandemic level in 2019 and up 22.95 percent from the same period a year ago, the State Post Bureau said on Thursday. Online sales of agricultural products continued to see rapid growth, it said. Express parcels received and delivered in rural areas rose by 30 percent on a yearly basis during the holiday, up 10 percentage points over the number in urban areas.
Transport investment up in first quarter
Fixed-asset investment in China's transport sector grew rapidly during the first three months of the year, official data showed. From January to March, the sector's total fixed-asset investment rose by 52.8 percent on a yearly basis to 579.2 billion yuan ($89.3 billion), according to the Ministry of Transport. On a yearly basis, the figure was 18.5 percent higher than in the same period in 2019, the ministry said. Investment in road and waterway construction rose 60.1 percent from a year ago to 459.7 billion yuan during the period.
