China's railways sent 920 million tons of cargo in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 12 percent year-on-year, The Paper reported on Friday.

The country's railways expanded transportation capacity, ensured transport of key materials, strengthened international cooperation and improved service efficiency and quality in Q1 this year, according to China Railway.

The average daily load of China's railways was 168,900 cars, an increase of 210.54 million cars or 14.2 percent year-on-year.

China worked closely with international railway departments to ensure the international supply chain was stable and unimpeded.

In the first quarter of this year, the China-Europe freight trains made 3,345 trips and delivered 317,000 TEU-containers, up 70 percent and 79 percent year-on-year, respectively.

About 950 million tons of annual medium- and long-term contracts were signed with coal suppliers and demanders, according to the report.

Measures for tax and fee cuts continued to be implemented to reduce the cost of logistics for the whole process and support the development of the real economy.

China's railway department will be market-oriented, further deepen supply-side structural reform, optimize freight product supply, improve service quality, reduce logistics costs, and make new contributions to build new development patterns and promote economic and social development.
