Breast, cervical cancers among top 10 diseases in crowdfunding campaigns

The Chinese crowdfunding platform Waterdrop Medical Crowdfunding announced on International Women's Day, which fell on Monday this year, that breast and cervical cancers, some of the most frequent and fatal cancers among women, are also among the top 10 diseases seen in campaigns on its charity fundraising platform.
The company had raised 1.25 billion yuan ($192 million) for about 60,000 breast cancer patients by the end of February. Charity fundraising campaigns for breast cancer patients accounted for 2.12 percent of its total projects.
Among breast cancer patient users of the platform, 16.5 percent were aged between 19 to 40, while 79.1 percent were aged 41 to 64.
More than 30,000 cervical cancer patients had used the platform by the end of last month, and money raised for them exceeded 610 million yuan. Most of the patients were aged 41 to 65, and 13.4 percent were younger.
According to the World Health Organization, there were 2.3 million new cases of breast cancer in the world in 2020, accounting for 12 percent of new cancer cases in the world that year.
China had 420,000 new breast cancer cases, alongside 120,000 death cases last year.
