China will not tolerate baseless slanders in its domestic affairs by foreign parties, nor will it allow its core interests to be violated, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a news conference on Sunday.

Wang made the comment in response to an inquiry on whether China can concede on questions ranging from the South China Sea to Taiwan to improve relations with the United States.

Wang said these topics are a matter of domestic affairs, and not interfering in another nation's internal affairs is a basic principle in international relations.

"The Chinese people are in the best position to tell whether China is doing a good job. The Chinese people can best decide what is the right thing for China to do," he said.

For some time, the US has been willfully interfering in other countries' internal affairs in the name of democracy and human rights, he said. "This has created many trouble in the world, and in some cases, became the source of turbulence and conflict. It is important that the US recognize this as soon as possible. Otherwise, the world will not enjoy peace and tranquility."

Wang said it is normal for China and the US, two countries with different social systems, to have differences and disagreements. "What matters most is to manage them effectively through candid communication to prevent strategic miscalculation and avoid conflict and confrontation."

Wang said China hopes the US can remove its unreasonable restriction on bilateral cooperation as soon as possible, and refrain from artificially creating new ones.

"We are willing to work with the US and set China-US relations on a new path of healthy and steady development," he said.
