Peking University gets 1 billion yuan donation
Peking University on Wednesday received a 1 billion yuan ($155 million) donation from an alumnus-the largest personal donation the university has received since its founding in 1898. Li Yongxin, chairman of Offcn Education Technology, a private institution that offers training for the civil service exam, graduated from the university's School of Government in 1999. Li and his mother, Lu Zhongfang, the founders of Offcn, are the richest education entrepreneurs in the world, with a net worth of 91 billion yuan, according to the Hurun Global Education Rich List 2020. Li said the donation was a show of gratitude to the teachers at the university and also a way to show his love for his alma mater. The donation will be used to set up scholarships and grants for students and teachers at the university.

Province moves ahead with park cluster effort
Qinghai province will forge ahead with the construction of a national park cluster to improve the environment of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, local authorities said on Wednesday. Having built two national parks around Sanjiangyuan, home of the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers, and the Qilian mountains, Qinghai has integrated 109 nature reserves of various levels to make 79 in total, said Li Xiaonan, head of the provincial forestry and grassland bureau. National parks account for 52.2 percent of the province's total nature reserve area, which has been expanded by another 34,100 square kilometers and now makes up 38.4 percent of the province's total land area.
