Efforts on to boost EV battery performance

China will roll out measures to improve the performance of electric vehicle batteries in low temperatures, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Tuesday. The ministry will urge carmakers, battery producers and research institutes to achieve technological breakthroughs, and speed up development and industrialization of all-weather car batteries, said Huang Libin, a spokesman for the ministry, at a news conference. Efforts will also be made in standardizing related technologies, he said, adding that carmakers should provide better after-sales services.

Jiangsu leads other provinces in FDI use

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Jiangsu province led the nation in materialized foreign direct investment in 2020, which grew 8.6 percent to $28.38 billion, according to the provincial government. The manufacturing industry used $9.18 billion of FDI last year. The modern services industry became the primary force in attracting FDI, with the actual use of FDI in the technology promotion and application services industry increasing by 51.1 percent on a yearly basis. Projects with materialized FDI of over $30 million used 59.6 percent of the province's total foreign investment last year, an increase of 5 percentage points over the same period in 2019. Jiangsu also saw its actualized FDI from Belt and Road economies surge 12.8 percent year-on-year, taking up 5.7 percent of the province's total.
