Dongli district in Tianjin, which in recent years has been 'paired up' with four counties in less developed parts of the country, has reported success in lifting these areas out of poverty through tailored measures targeting areas such as the local economy, living standards and education.

In view of the suitable environment and sufficient labor of Gangu county in northwestern Gansu province, Beichen allocated funds to build some vegetable industry bases, growing organic vegetables with scientific planting technology and introducing Tianjin’s famous Shawo radish to the bases.

In the same province’s Gaolan county, broadening the sales channels of agricultural products is key to supporting the place. Companies including Tianjin Food Group signed purchase contracts with the area and showed off the planting and growing processes to their customers.

The district supports standard planting bases for Lintan county’s planting of traditional Chinese medicines(TCM). Tianjin TCM companies provided packaging services and guidance in areas including planting, processing, branding and sales. Over 6,000 households benefited from share dividends and employment.

The district facilitates Chengde county in Hebei province in the production of agricultural products such as grains and apples through large-scale industrialization, and has increased the average annual income of households by more than 2,000 yuan($304).

The district organized skills education classes in auto repair, electromechanical and other academic classes and recommended suitable jobs for the learners based on their training results.

Teams of medical experts from the district have toured the four counties providing medical consultancy services benefiting more than 1,000 people, and over 400 women were offered free health insurance.

Cultural supplies have been provided to the four counties, and online books and museum materials from Beichen are also open to people from the areas.
