Tianjin: Protecting wildlife and forest resources and building environmentally-friendly city

In recent years, Tianjin has made great efforts to protect its wildlife and forest resources, and is working on building itself into an ecologically-rich and livable city.
During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, Tianjin gave priority to ecological protection and restoration. By implementing stringent protection measures and improving its natural environment, wildlife received effective protection. The quantity and diversity of wild birds increased greatly.
According to the Second Land Wildlife Resources Survey Report of Tianjin, conducted in 2014, 485 species of wild animals were recorded, including 416 species of birds. With the continuous improvement of the ecological environment, an increasing number of migratory birds have been attracted to stop at Tianjin. According to the monitoring data of a scientific team from Tianjin Normal University, 452 bird species have been observed and recorded so far this year, 36 more than those recorded in 2014.
Tianjin, as an important stopover point on the bird migration channel from East Asia to Australia, which is one of the eight most important bird migration channels in the world, has a unique geographical location and resource advantages, and so attracts millions of migrating birds to stop to rest in spring and autumn every year.
In addition, the habitat for wild animals keeps improving. There are 11.3 square kilometers of natural resources in Beidagang Wetland Nature Reserve, which has also been listed as a wetland of international importance. Moreover, the species of wild birds and habitat areas are expanding, and the mammalian wildlife population is gradually recovering.
The increase in species and quantity of wild animals, and the continuous improvement of the ecological environment, is primarily due to the strong protections and law enforcement management of Tianjin as well as the general improvement in the public's awareness of the importance of caring for nature and the environment.
In the future, Tianjin will continue to promote the protection of its wildlife resources by optimizing systems and mechanisms, enhancing wetland conservation, increasing publicity efforts to raise public awareness, and more. In accordance with the proposals of the fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC, wildlife protection will be included in the overall considerations of building a community of shared life, and overall plans and designs will be promoted to help wildlife resource protection reach a new level.
