Popular hutong walks and visits
Chaoyangmen Walk: Includes Shijia Hutong, Lishi Hutong and Yanyue Hutong, all of which have long histories and offer visitors a glimpse of old Beijing.
Lishi Hutong: Formerly known as Lyushi Hutong, it served as a livestock market in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), it was home to government officials Liu Yong (1720-1805) and Jing Xin (1832-1907). Lishi Hutong No 127, a courtyard, was transformed into a museum, which opened to the public in 2017 and features exhibits showcasing the history of the hutong, along with artworks by local residents.
Yanyue Hutong: Acquired its name during the Ming Dynasty, when it was home to many court musicians and bands. It was also where musicians and dancers rehearsed. More than 30 courtyards have been preserved well, with one of them housing a jujube tree that is more than 500 years old. Yanyue Hutong No 92 has become a scenic spot for visitors.
