Jiangmen Railway Station opens in S China

A new railway station has officially started operation in Jiangmen, a major Pearl River delta city, on Monday and will play a significant role in further promoting and expanding economic ties among cities in the western part of South China's Guangdong province.

Jiangmen Railway Station, a comprehensive transportation hub, is expected to inject new impetus to the economic construction of Jiangmen, home to more than 4 million overseas Chinese who are now working and living in more than 107 nations and regions around the world.

Ma Xingrui, deputy Party chief and governor of Guangdong, announced the new station's official start of operation during an opening ceremony on Friday morning.

The station is now the fourth largest in Guangdong, window of China's reform and opening up.

Construction started three years ago. The project includes floor space of 254,500 square meters.
