Acting Kyrgyz president resigns to run in presidential election

BISHKEK, Nov - Acting President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov stepped down to run for presidency in January, his press service reported Saturday.
Zhaparov resigned in connection with the nomination of his candidacy for the post of president of Kyrgyzstan, the press service said in a press release.
Zhaparov submitted his documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Saturday morning. The deadline for submitting documents to the CEC is Nov. 14.
At the moment, 62 people have applied to run for the presidency, according to data of the CEC. The election is scheduled for Jan 10, 2021.
