Located in Tianjin’s Beichen district, Dazhangzhuang town has set up renewable power generation systems by utilizing wind, solar, water and geothermal energy sources available in the region.

Launched by the State Grid Tianjin Electronic Power Company, 22 projects have been applied since 2018, transforming Dazhangzhuang into an energy-conserving and eco-friendly town with smart technologies.

Intelligent and information technologies have been adopted in the town’s buildings, energy supply systems and city and industry management.

For example, 11 smart computation nodes have been added to heat pump units, air conditioning water pumps and ground source water pumps for the AC system’s automated self-regulated operation.

The application of integrated wind-power storage and ground source heat pumps has lifted energy efficiency by 19 percent. Since adopting these new technologies, a total of 4.08 million kilowatt-hours of electricity have been saved, saving 3.59 million yuan($542,122) in costs and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 40.52 million tons.

Dazhangzhuang has also established a new-generation phase-change thermal storage station to support electricity in heating supply.

The town has tailored the hierarchical power supply scheme for factories, saving about 50 percent in power costs compared with the traditional unified management method.

The energy management platform of Dazhangzhuang, serving as the "energy brain" of the town, has been developed as a new model of safe low-carbon energy supply with higher efficiency. This platform supports the centralized development of industry-city integration in the region, enabling energy structure transformation and energy consumption reform.
