ChinaVis 2020 held in Xi’an to promote visualization industry

ChinaVis 2020 was held on Nov 1 in Xi’an in Shaanxi province, Northwest China, to further promote the frontier technology of data visualization and visual analysis and to discuss the future prospects of the industry.

Sponsored by the China Image Graphics Society, and hosted by the Special Committee of Visualization and Visual Analysis, Xidian University, Northwest University, Xi'an University of Technology, Shaanxi Normal University, Xi'an University of Finance and Economics, Beilin District Management Committee of Innovation Industrial Belt Around Universities and the Key Laboratory of Xi'an Data and Visual Intelligence Key Technology, the conference attracted nearly 600 representatives from universities, research institutes and enterprises, as well as top experts, scholars and representatives in the field from all over the country.

Miao Qiguang, professor of Xidian University and chairman of China Vis 2020, said that due to the impact of this year's epidemic, ChinaVis 2020 held an online conference from July 19 to 21. In order to further promote exchanges and strengthen cooperation, offline meetings were then specially organized between October 31 and November 3.

Zhang Jincheng, assistant president of Xidian University, said that the conference is the most active professional meeting in the field of visualization. It brings together top experts and scholars from famous universities, scientific research institutes and well-known enterprises in the field, so that the academic meets the real world and the technology frontier is driven forward.

“This conference has set up urban visual analysis, biological imaging visualization, financial visual analysis, geospatial visualization, agricultural and forestry visualization, and artificial intelligence (AI) visualization, so that the current hot topics such as AI, science and art, urban humanities, biological agriculture and forestry can be combined with the national demand to study and explore new directions and the development of visualization applications. This will promote the development of informatization and add new power to its application,” the assistant president of Xidian University said.

After the opening ceremony, professor Tamara Munzner from the University of British Columbia gives an online presentation entitled "Problem Driven Visualization Through Design Studies".

At the conference's round table forum, professors from Chinese universities put forward their own views and opinions on the integration of visual analysis and data mining technology, from the perspective of the relationship between visualization and artificial intelligence, model-driven visual data analysis, and using visualization technology to assist interpretable deep learning.

The three-and-a-half-day conference has a full agenda. In addition to high-level academic papers, the conference also held a number of special reports and round table forums on intelligent education and visualization, safety visual analysis, urban visual analysis, scientific visualization, biological imaging visualization, financial visual analysis, and novel interactive technologies.
