TRAVEL REPORT
Chinese people will make more than 3.4 billion domestic trips in 2020, down 43 percent year-on-year, according to a report released by the China Tourism Academy on Monday. The report said China will gain 2.76 trillion yuan ($400 billion) of revenue from domestic tourism in 2020, down 52 percent from the previous year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also noted that the country's tourism sector is rapidly recovering. Over 80 percent of Chinese people surveyed expressed their willingness to travel during the third quarter of 2020, 90 percent of the figure for the same period in 2019.
INVESTMENT COOPERATION
Hospitality company Accor and property developer Ningbang Group signed an agreement on Tuesday to develop new Sofitel and Novotel hotels at the Zhangjiajie Ningbang Plaza in Hunan province. The plaza, which is home to Sofitel Zhangjiajie Ningbang and Novotel Zhangjiajie Ningbang, promises to be a one-stop destination for metropolitan living. The 1-million-square-meter urban complex is designed to include a large shopping mall, a commercial street and sleek residences including SOHO apartments.
CULINARY DELIGHTS
The Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian in Liaoning province launched new offerings combining delicious local quality seafood cooked in classic Chinese styles on Sept 10. The hotel's Chinese executive chef Steven Wong developed the new dishes based on his cooking experience of more than 20 years. Well-known for its high-quality seafood, Dalian, a coastal city in Northeast China, opened its fishing season on Sept 1 after four months of a fishing moratorium.
The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing has gotten fresh inspiration for its signature afternoon tea from Glashutte Original, a high-end German watch brand founded in 1845. The new afternoon tea, designed to reflect the combination of time-honored craft and culinary skills, includes a selection of desserts served with complementary tea, coffee or champagne. It is on offer until mid-November.
