Enjoy cool summer on Wuzhi Mountain

Wuzhi Mountain, located in Wuzhishan, a city in Hainan province, is one of the famous mountains in China.
The mountain stretches from the southwest to the northeast, and its main peaks are shaped like five huge fingers piercing the sky. That is how Wuzhi (literally meaning five fingers in Chinese) Mountain got its name.
The highest peak is Erzhi (literally meaning second finger) Peak, with an elevation in excess of 1,800 meters. A natural stone bridge connects the Yizhi (first finger) and Erzhi peaks. Legend has it that it is a fairy bridge, and the fairies like to play on the bridge.
The mountain's climate is warm in winter and cool in summer, with an average temperature of 22.4 degrees Celsius, and average relative humidity of 84 percent. Given the abundant rainfall, several rivers and streams on Hainan Island originate from the mountain.
Wuzhi Mountain Tropical Rainforest National Nature Reserve covers 140 square kilometers. Shuiman River, running through the reserve, is the headstream of Changhua River, and the second-longest river on Hainan Island.
The valleys and primitive tropical rainforest on the mountain are home to various species of precious plants and wild animals. Tourists will smell the unique fragrance of resin as they enjoy themselves in the forest.
Red Canyon Tourist Attraction, located in Nansheng, a town in Wuzhishan, is a paradise for people who love tubing in rivers through the canyons.

The residents in Wuzhishan are mainly of the Li ethnic group. Chubao Village, at the western foot of Wuzhi Mountain, is a well-preserved ancient Li village, where people maintain the ethnic group's traditional lifestyle.
Villagers live in buildings on stilts, a unique kind of traditional dwelling of the Li ethnic group, and different from the boat-shaped houses of Li people who live in other areas of the island.
Most of the villagers master the traditional beng (meaning stretching in English) dyeing skills. People of other ethnic groups usually weave cloth before they dye the cloth. But Li people dye threads before they weave the cloth. The unique skills make the fabric more elegant and attractive.
Double Third Festival, on the third day of the third lunar month, is a big day for Li people. It is also known as Valentine's Day by Li people. They celebrate new life, pay tribute to love and commemorate their ancestors during the festival. The festival was added to the list of national intangible heritage in 2006.
