Texas surpasses New York state in total coronavirus cases

HOUSTON - Texas, the second largest US state by both area and population, has surpassed New York state in total confirmed coronavirus cases, figures from Johns Hopkins University showed on Wednesday.

The southern state has so far registered 417,098 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, while New York state has reported a total of 413,593 cases as of Wednesday.

According to a dashboard run by the university, California has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the United States, with at least 475,806 people infected. The states of Florida, Texas and New York are behind California.
