LONDON - British holidaymakers are expected to be allowed to travel to several European countries from July 6 without having to be quarantined for 14 days when they return, local media reported Saturday.

Those countries are thought to include Spain, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Turkey, Germany and Norway, but not Portugal or Sweden, according to the BBC.

The travel will be possible with the British government's efforts to set up the so-called "air bridge" arrangements with certain countries for overseas destinations.

"Our new risk-assessment system will enable us to carefully open a number of safe travel routes around the world - giving people the opportunity for a summer holiday abroad and boosting the UK economy through tourism and business," said a government spokesman. "But we will not hesitate to put on the brakes if any risks re-emerge."

A traffic light system will be introduced with countries labeled as green, amber or red depending on the risk of coronavirus in the country, the BBC reported.

Quarantine will still remain in place for travellers upon return from those countries most at risk, including the United States and Brazil with a full list to be published next week.
