A high-level economic dialogue expected to shore up confidence in the global economy after the COVID-19 outbreak will be held in Shanghai on June 10.

The dialogue is the first warmup event for the Hongqiao International Economic Forum of the third China International Import Expo, or CIIE, which will take place in Shanghai on Nov 5-10.

The dialogue will engage representatives of forum members, various businesses and government departments. It will help to strengthen communications between businesses and improve the forum's global influence, according to the CIIE Bureau.

Representatives from international organizations, financial institutions and companies will discuss the impact of the pandemic on enterprises' global supply chain, industrial chain and long-term operation. They will exchange ideas to overcome challenges and government's role in supporting supply chain restoration and construction.

Experts will also share their latest findings on globalization and give suggestions on setting up international economic and trade rules of higher standards.

As an important part and parallel event of the CIIE, the Hongqiao International Economic Forum consists of a main forum and parallel sessions. At the forum, a host of world renowned dignitaries from political, business and academic circles will exchange thoughts on and contribute wisdom to the global economy.

At this moment, COVID-19 continues to spread, taking a huge toll on the world economy. The capital and commodity markets have been severely impacted, and many industries are affected to different degrees. Some are even facing the risk of industrial and supply chain break.

The international community must boost confidence and strengthen cooperation to maintain the global industrial chain and supply chain security, a CIIE Bureau official said.

So far, preparations for the third CIIE have gone well. As of May, more than 80 percent of the planned exhibition space has been booked.

Holding the third CIIE in spite of the COVID-19 outbreak demonstrates China is committed to its responsibilities as a major country, said Wang Bingnan, vice-minister of commerce of China.

The expo will be critical to helping rapid economic recovery and building up an open world economy, Wang said.
