Tianjin committed to helping the country eradicate poverty


Tianjin has helped lift three million people in 3,787 villages out of poverty in China's less-developed western and interior regions, according to a press conference held by local government on May 11.
The achievements are the result of the city's ongoing efforts to help China achieve its goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and securing a decisive victory in poverty alleviation.
Last month, e-commerce companies from Tianjin purchased agricultural goods worth 1.53 billion yuan ($216 million) from areas such as Shaanxi province, the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and Gansu province.
The goods have seen slow sales since the outbreak of COVID-19.
To help these areas weather the epidemic, Tianjin has also created job opportunities and helped local companies return to work. Up to 45,000 workers have secured their jobs with the help of the city.
The port city has established industrial cooperation, utilizing favorable policy support and a special financial aid fund of 26 million yuan as a starting point for attracting the participation of social capital.
The fund is expected to invest in 300 industrial projects, involving more than 90 enterprises in rural areas. More than 50,000 people are expected to benefit.
A fund totaling 60 million yuan has recently been established by the city to facilitate industrial development, improvements in medical facilities and housebuilding in those areas.
Over 70 private companies and social organizations have also offered targeted help to poverty-stricken villages.
Other forms of exchanges and help can also be seen in areas like personnel, technology, education and medical care. The capabilities of "internet plus" are powerful tools for connecting medical resources.
This is the final year for China to meet its goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and the central government has stressed that lifting rural residents out of poverty by the end of 2020 is a solemn commitment of the country, and it must be fulfilled on schedule.
