Tianjin’s commerce-driven activity helps rural areas alleviate poverty

Tianjin is taking targeted actions to help rural areas across the country sell their agricultural products, which have recently been unmarketable due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The local government held a cloud contract signing ceremony in Xiqing district today, which was attended online by 218 enterprises from over 10 provinces and cities across the country, mostly from western and inner areas such as Shaanxi province, Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region, and Gansu province.
A total of 204 agreements were reached, involving 1.53 billion yuan ($216 million) worth of agricultural products from more than ten provincial rural areas.
Among them, 202 procurement agreements valued at a total of 1.33 billion yuan were hammered down, including 572 million yuan for purchasing Gansu’s agricultural and sideline products, 339 million yuan for Xinjiang, 197 million yuan for Hebei, 150 million yuan for Qinghai, and additional varying amounts for other areas.
The contracts are expected to benefit 141,600 poverty-stricken people.
Tianjin has taken the action following a call by central government to minimize the shock from the pandemic and win the battle against absolute poverty.
This year is the final one for China to meet its goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
