JD Daojia orders surge 240% since Wuhan lifts lockdown
JD Daojia, the on-demand retail platform of Dada Group, said its orders have surged 240 percent within the first 10 hours since Wuhan, the hardest-hit area by the COVID-19 outbreak on the Chinese mainland, lifted lockdown on Wednesday, compared with the same period the previous month.
Wine, cakes and flowers are the top three commodities favored by Wuhan residents. Local consumers also are enthusiastic about purchasing vegetables, rice, fruit, dairy products, dumplings and cooking oil, according to statistics from JD Daojia.
Some traditional Wuhan dishes, such as pure cereal wine, hot-dry noodles, also known as reganmian, and rice wine have witnessed a surge in demand, while sales of imported biscuits, chocolate, dairy products and adult milk powder also are on the rise.
The number of orders taken by Dada's deliverymen increased by 287 percent from midnight to 10 am on Wednesday, compared with the same time period on March 8.
Moreover, JD Daojia is offering coupons to Wuhan consumers during its fifth anniversary shopping festival, which began April 5 and runs to April 16, in cooperation with large supermarkets, in a bid to accelerate economic recovery and further release the purchasing potential of consumers.
