Although the reopening of various venues indicates that the spread of the virus is well under control, many residents are still cautious and plan to avoid indoor activities and venues that are likely to be crowded.

"This is the first time I went to a public venue following the COVID-19 outbreak, and my greatest impression was the scarcity of people there," says Qin Wenqin, who visited Disneytown the day after Shanghai Disney Resort announced on March 9 that it would reopen part of its facilities for shopping, dining and recreation. Shanghai Disneyland is still temporarily closed.

The city's administrators are encouraging residents to choose off-peak hours to visit scenic spots and not gather in large groups.

According to Shanghai's health commission, Shanghai has had 363 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Thursday, of which 25 are imported cases. The commission notes that of the 18 suspected cases still under medical quarantine and observation, 17 people are from abroad.
