Hainan sees FDI double in 2019
South China's Hainan province saw its foreign direct investment rise 107.8 percent in 2019, according to the province's department of commerce. Hainan's FDI inflow reached $1.5 billion last year as more foreign companies are drawn to the island province due to its favorable investment policies. In 2019, Hainan continued to open up, optimized its business environment and shortened the negative list for foreign investment. Hainan will focus on the finance leasing, new-energy vehicle, pharmaceutical engineering and medical device sectors to attract foreign companies and investment in 2020.
Lenovo launches 5G PC at CES
China's tech giant Lenovo has launched the world's first 5G personal computer at the ongoing 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, for the first time bringing 5G connectivity to a premium computing experience beyond smartphone technology. The new PC, named Yoga 5G, is an ultra-portable 2-in-1 laptop and the first-ever PC powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform, according to Lenovo. It delivers high-speed 5G network connectivity, which is up to 10 times faster than 4G, through a 5G service provider when on the move and reliable Wi-Fi access at home.
US mortgage rate falls on weekly basis
Mortgage rates decreased in the United States last week, the US Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp, commonly known as Freddie Mac, said on Thursday. For the week ending Jan 9, 2020, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate in the United States decreased to 3.64 percent from previous week's 3.72 percent. However, it was still significantly lower than the same period one year ago, when it averaged 4.45 percent.
Brazil's industrial output dips in Nov
Industrial production in Brazil dipped by 1.2 percent in November compared to the previous month, government statistics institute IBGE said. The result put an end to a three-month streak of increases in output and marked the worst outcome for November since 2015. Compared to the same month of 2018, November's industrial production fell by 1.7 percent.
