SUVA - With an aim to vaccinate Fijians most at risk of getting measles by Christmas, the Health Ministry is urging people in target groups to get immunized.

Health Minister Ifereimi Waqainabete said on Monday with two days away from Christmas unimmunized Fijians need to visit their nearest health center or outreach post.

Fijian health officials have vaccinated about 325,000 out of the 380,000 target population for measles so far.

"There's like another 60,000 people left to be able to meet the target of 380,000 because that's the target we've set for ourselves."

Waqainabete said more than 400,000 people around the country have been vaccinated and teams deployed for house to house vaccinations are targeting people who are immobile.

There are 23 confirmed cases of measles so far in Fiji.
