The China Daily app has received 10,569 votes from readers and 38 percent of the votes went to "win-win" as the word to conclude the past year and also to raise expectations for the year to come.

The international community in 2019 has taken a firm stand on win-win cooperation at a time of rising unilateralism and nationalism. The concept of win-win is highlighted and hailed at many international arenas. Effective and joint measures to enhance and strengthen global partnerships have been taken and brought benefits to the world.

Click here to see the voting results, and the grand prize - a copy of An International Debate on the Intellectual Situation of Our Time - will be awarded to the participants who nominated "win-win".

China Daily app's users tell their opinion about the word:

George

My choice of this word argues against the notion of the Zero Sum theory, where Socialism with Chinese Characteristics has proven to the world that despite all of the global economic and social turbulence, China continues to advance as a great nation of prosperity, stability and fairness. The upcoming 2020 outcome of complete alleviation of poverty for the whole of China is a significant milestone under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, it echoes to the world that the option of Win-Win is a better choice than Zero-sum.

In a world fed on a diet of capitalism where we are raised to believe that we are either winners or losers, China offers an alternative and hope to the billions who have been declared losers. There is a place for everyone in a future carved of mutual respect and integrity.
