Editor's note: President Xi Jinping will be in Macao from Dec 18 to 20 to attend a series of events marking the 20th anniversary of Macao's return. The president has always cared about this beautiful and harmonious city, where the "one country, two systems" principle has been proved to be a great success. Let's see Xi's stories with this city.

Senior citizens gathered at a day care center in Macao on Oct 7 to listen to President Xi Jinping's reply letter that extended greetings to senior citizens upon the Double Ninth Festival, also known as Chongyang Festival.

Senior citizens at the center wrote a letter to Xi earlier, speaking of the changes since Macao's return to the motherland, and expressed their pride to be Chinese and determination to pass on the tradition of loving the motherland and Macao.

In the reply letter on Oct 6, Xi said, "you have experienced the successful practice of 'one country, two systems' in Macao," and "I am glad that you devote yourselves to public welfare after retirement."

Xi expressed his hope that the senior residents could tell young people in Macao more stories happening before and after Macao's return and encourage them to pass on the fine tradition of loving the motherland and loving Macao to make contributions to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and to work together in making Macao more beautiful.
