Professor fired for sexual misconduct
Feng Renjie, an associate professor at Peking University, was fired after a woman who claimed to be his lover accused him of having sexual relationships with several women at the same time. The university confirmed on Thursday. The university announced on its Weibo account that it will handle the case in accordance with university regulations. The announcement came after a woman claiming to be Feng's lover posted on WeChat on Dec 3 that Feng, who taught in the school of mathematical sciences, had seduced young girls to sleep with him.

Late official honored for fighting poverty
Zhang Xiaojuan, a government official who died while on duty working on the front lines of poverty alleviation in Zhouqu county, Gansu province, has been posthumously honored as a national role model in the country's fight against poverty. The title was jointly awarded by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, the office said in a statement on Wednesday. Zhang, a member of the Communist Party of China and deputy chief of Zhouqu county's poverty alleviation and development office, died at the age of 34 in a road accident on Oct 7.

6 killed, 1 hurt in Beipo village road accident
Six people were killed and one other injured in a road accident in a village in Henan province, local authorities said on Wednesday. The accident occurred at around 2 pm on Tuesday in Beipo village, Gongyi city when a motorized tricycle carrying seven villagers shot off the road at a turning and fell off a cliff. Further investigation is underway.

Shenzhen reports case of Zika virus
Shenzhen customs in South China's Guangdong province have detected a case of imported Zika virus in a man returning from abroad, local health authorities said on Tuesday. The patient, 33, has been put under quarantine and is in stable condition, according to the provincial health commission. Zika, a mosquito-borne virus, can cause symptoms including fever, rashes and arthralgia, and in rare cases it can be lethal. With the new case, China has reported a total of 30 cases of imported Zika virus since 2016.

Region sees progress in treatment of TB
The Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region has cured more than 56,900 tuberculosis patients since 2016, according to the region's health commission. Xinjiang has been providing free medical examinations to all people in the region each year since 2016, along with free TB symptom screenings and chest X-ray examinations for residents both in urban and rural areas aged 15 and above, the commission said. The success rate of treatment for TB patients has reached 97 percent thanks to a series of measures taken in the region, including the joint service mechanism of disease control and prevention organizations, hospitals and other medical and health institutions, said Liu Jianguo, deputy director of the commission. The reimbursement rate of outpatient medical expenses for TB patients in Xinjiang is 100 percent, and the reimbursement rate for hospitalization expenses is 90 percent, according to the commission.
