Science: Study reveals brain-aging in primates

Researchers have identified a gene that plays a key role in brain aging, providing insights into the process. The molecular mechanisms remain to be studied in nonhuman primates. Researchers from the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other research institutions used 547 indicators from 44 brain areas in four young and three aged macaques to study alterations during aging. According to the report published in the journal Genome Biology, they found a decreased tendency of connectivity among multiple brain regions and between the left and right brain hemispheres during aging.

Society: Smart vehicles pave Shanghai road

Automated pitch-paving vehicles have been used on a Shanghai road. The vehicles, one carrying pitch and two road rollers, are unmanned and supported by artificial intelligence and the Beidou Navigation Satellite System. The 3D monitoring system can ensure the flatness of the surface, while checking the temperature of the pitch with infrared rays to adjust the rolling speed. The Beidou system helps improve the accuracy of the vehicles to within 5 centimeters. If anyone is detected within 1.5 meters of the vehicles, they brake immediately and resume operation after people walk away.

Films: Lost in Russia to hit screens next month

Lost in Russia, a comedy film by director Xu Zheng, is set for release on Jan 25, Spring Festival. It tells the story of a businessman who accidentally boards a train bound for Russia with his mother and has to overcome difficulties with her and problems in his family life. The film stars Xu and actress Yuan Quan. Xu's comedy films－Lost in Thailand and Lost in Hong Kong released in 2012 and 2015－grossed more than 1.2 billion yuan ($180 million) and 1.6 billion yuan in China, respectively.

Biz: Bilibili 'gets' rights for League of Legends

Video-sharing site Bilibili has reportedly obtained the exclusive broadcasting rights for the League of Legends World Championships in China for the next three years. The Beijing News reported that it has cost Bilibili 800 million yuan ($113 million) for the three-year deal. This includes next year's tournament in Shanghai and the two following competitions.
