UNITED NATIONS - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday condemned the attack on a UN vehicle in Kabul, Afghanistan, which killed a UN employee and injured two others on Sunday.

Guterres expressed "his deepest condolences" to the family of the victim and wished a swift recovery to the injured, said his spokesman Stephane Dujarric in a statement.

The secretary-general called on the Afghan authorities to spare no effort to identify and swiftly bring to justice the perpetrators of this attack, he said.

He reaffirmed the United Nations' commitment to continuing to assist the government and people of Afghanistan as the country strives for sustainable peace and development, the statement said.

Earlier Sunday, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said one UN employee was killed in an attack targeting its vehicle in Kabul.

An Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman was quoted by media reports as saying one person was killed and five civilians, including two Afghan UN personnel, were wounded in the explosion.
